For the past eight years, Local Community Day has played an important role in our commitment to making Belfast’s maritime heritage accessible to the communities who live closest to it. Delivered annually in partnership with Titanic Belfast, the initiative offers local residents and community groups the opportunity to enjoy a complimentary visit to Titanic Belfast and the historic SS Nomadic.

To date, more than 4,500 people have had the opportunity to attend local community day, engaging with world-class heritage sites while also learning more about our work and the wider heritage of the Maritime Mile. Groups have included RNIB, Parkinson’s UK, Tiny Life, Positive Life, Simon Community, Rainbow Project, Inspire Wellbeing, Community Health Partnership and Waterfront Neighbourhood Network communities.

Jonny Walker, Leader of Four G Day Opportunities Group “The Titanic Experience is first class. For some of our group it is their first visit and everyone loved it! A huge thank you to Maritime Belfast Trust and Titanic Belfast- I’d highly recommend the experience to anyone.”

Tommy O’Reilly, Community Development Officer from Belfast City Council said, “Today was a fantastic day to reunite the people of Belfast with their seafaring heritage. There are groups from Hannahstown, Avoniel, Ligoniel, Suffolk and Lenadoon, all who have had a tremendous day out. It’s great to see this part of Belfast re-emerging for local people to enjoy. A big thank you to all the staff involved for such a great day out.”

Claire Allen, from New Lodge Duncairn Community Health Partnership, said, “Fantastic opportunity to allow local families to enjoy a day to experience an attraction right on their doorstep. The timing has been perfect as some of the children are studying Titanic at school and they wouldn’t have had the experience otherwise.”
